Big question: If you hit a drum with something bendy, will it change the sound?

This afternoon, the class split in half and conducted two different investigations- both big questions were chosen by members of the class.

Mr Stone’s group investigated the question: Do all vibrations feel the same? (Jess)

The children used tuning forks to observe the vibration of sound waves in water. It was great fun!

Miss Goddard’s group tried to find the answer to ‘If you hit a drum with a bendy object, will it change the sound?’ (Max)

First, the group had to identify a range of different beaters. Then, they were asked to think about what would make the investigation a fair test. We had to consider safety. After that, they predicted what would happen to the sound if they used different beaters compared to bendy objects.
